European stocks turned in a mixed performance on Wednesday as concerns about inflation and interest rates resurfaced following a jump in oil prices amid an escalation in tensions in the Middle East after joint attacks by Saudi Arabi and the United States in Iraq, targeting Iran-backed militias.

In addition to reacting to a spate of corporate earnings announcements, investors also looked ahead to the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy announcement.
