The Singapore stock market has finished higher in five straight sessions, collecting almost 220 points or 4.4 percent along the way. Now at a fresh record closing high, the Straits Times Index sits just above the 5,110-point plateau although it may spin its wheels on Thursday.

The global forecast for the Asian markets is negative on concerns over the outlook for interest rates. The European markets were mixed and the U.S. bourses were down and the Asian markets figure to follow the latter lead.
