{"id":75160,"date":"2026-06-29T12:00:22","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T12:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pantheregroup.com\/2026\/06\/29\/posthaste-cost-of-living-dogs-the-dog-days-of-summer\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T12:00:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T12:00:22","slug":"posthaste-cost-of-living-dogs-the-dog-days-of-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pantheregroup.com\/2026\/06\/29\/posthaste-cost-of-living-dogs-the-dog-days-of-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Posthaste: Cost of living dogs the dog days of summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<br \/><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Poilievre questions Carney&amp;apos;s &amp;apos;bizarre&amp;apos; comment on affordability\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_8-Sgo8oG0o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-license-id=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/smartcdn.gprod.postmedia.digital\/financialpost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/fp-posthaste-LOGO-01132023.jpg\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p> Canadians are taking a more budget-savvy approach this summer as the high cost of living has them looking to keep their spending in check. <\/p>\n<p> Nearly 80 per cent are changing their summer spending plans due to the rising cost of everyday expenses, while 46 per cent are reducing daily spending to lessen the impact of economic challenges, according to a new survey by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. <\/p>\n<p> The cutbacks follow a Toronto-Dominion Bank survey last month that said 35 per cent of Canadians intend to spend less this summer, with 62 per cent saying they are redirecting the money to the essentials such as food and housing. <\/p>\n<p> Canada\u2019s inflation rate spiked to 3.2 per cent in May, largely on the back of gas prices, which climbed 33.2 per cent year over year, but food prices were also up 4.3 per cent, while airfare and travel were up 7.4 per cent. <\/p>\n<p> Although gas prices have been falling over the past few weeks with the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Friday\u2019s average remained 160.5 cents per litre , according to the Canadian Automobile Association. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cWhat stands out in this year\u2019s findings is the combination of caution and resilience,\u201d Carissa Lucreziano, vice-president of financial planning and advice at CIBC, said in a release. \u201cCanadians are adapting, prioritizing what matters most to them and looking for ways to enjoy the season without losing sight of their longer-term financial goals.\u201d <\/p>\n<p> The good news?
