In December, <\/p>\n<p>                        the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses reported<\/p>\n<p>                         that the Canada Post strike was costing small- and medium-sized businesses about $76.6 million each day. <\/p>\n<p> Now, many are considering walking away from the service all together. <\/p>\n<p> The CFIB reported<\/p>\n<p>                         on Monday that 63 per cent of Canadian businesses are prepared to leave Canada Post permanently, and 13 per cent of small businesses already left the service during the 2024 strike. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cYo-yoing in and out of strike mandates is causing Canada\u2019s small businesses <\/p>\n<p>                        <span>\u2014 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>                        one of Canada Post\u2019s last groups of profitable customers <\/p>\n<p>                        <span>\u2014 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>                        to leave for good,\u201d said CFIB president Dan Kelly <\/p>\n<p>                        said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>                         \u201cSmall business owners and other consumers need certainty.\u201d <\/p>\n<p> Currently, about 80 per cent of Canadian businesses use Canada Post for sending cheques and letter mail, according to the CFIB. <\/p>\n<p> When it comes to packages, Canada Post holds a much smaller market share, which has dropped from 63 per cent in 2019 to just 24 per cent today, according to the corporation\u2019s\u00a0annual report. <\/p>\n<p> The CFIB data shows that 73 per cent of small businesses now rely on private couriers for package delivery. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe current model at Canada Post is in dire need of massive reform,\u201d Corinne Pohlmann, executive vice-president of advocacy at CFIB, said in the news release. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cIt\u2019s long overdue for the federal government to implement the well-studied changes that have been required for over a decade.
