threat of global reciprocal tariffs, several analysts suggest the \u201ctariff premium\u201d that the U.S. dollar enjoyed is slowly disappearing.<\/p>\n<p>The loonie was \u201cslightly stronger against the (U.S. dollar) overnight as the tariff premium continues to come out of the USD,\u201d Noah Buffam, a currency analyst at CIBC Capital Markets, said in a note on Friday, adding that \u201cwe expect a continued slow unwind of the tariff premium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karl Schamotta, chief currency strategist at Corpay, echoed that sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBenchmark 10-year Treasury yields are down, equity markets are up, and measures of financial market volatility are well off their highs as \u2018tariff exhaustion\u2019 kicks in,\u201d he said in a note on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Several other major currencies rose.<\/p>\n<p>The pound was trading at year-long highs, the euro was up against the U.S. dollar and the Canadian dollar, and the Mexican peso added \u201cto gains ahead of the North American open,\u201d Schamotta said.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Investors seem to be smelling a rat on this tariff file<\/p>\n<p>David Rosenberg<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Economist David Rosenberg at Rosenberg Research &amp; Associates Inc. said \u201cinvestor skepticism\u201d over Trump\u2019s tariff strategy was Second, no action yesterday on these so-called reciprocal tariffs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">For the time being, there is some breathing room on the trade war front.<\/p>\n<p>Howard Lutnick, Trump\u2019s Commerce Secretary nominee, on Thursday said an analysis of \u201cunfair\u201d trade practices, including trade barriers, currency manipulation, value-added taxes and subsidies, and regulations, will be completed by April 1.<\/p>\n<p>Buffam said the White House had also indicated on Thursday that it was \u201cnot ruling out a flat global tariff,\u201d which he said could be the loonie.<\/p>\n<p>It was trading around 71 cents U.S. prior to Trump lobbing his first tariff grenade of 25 per cent against Canada and Mexico on Nov. 25.<\/p>\n<p>In the near term, CIBC is calling
