billion earned a year ago, resulting in earnings per share of $1.72. It said it would sell about 10 per cent of its U.S. assets to create liquidity and support the financial needs of its customers, as well as introduce measures to improve return-on-equity metrics in the near term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemediation is our No. 1 priority, and we continue to make meaningful progress in addressing the failures,\u201d Masrani said.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the strategic review, the bank on Thursday said it would be \u201cchallenging\u201d to generate earnings growth and suspended its medium-term financial targets of seven per cent to 10 per cent earnings per share growth and 16 per cent return on equity.
