JPMorgan Chase & Co. chief executive Jamie Dimon said the next U.S. president must work to bring together a \u201cdeeply divided\u201d nation as domestic and geopolitical issues mount, and said the business world should have representation in the Cabinet.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe private sector has huge wells of expertise and produces 85 per cent of our nation\u2019s jobs,\u201d Dimon said in an opinion piece published Friday in the Washington Post. \u201cIt should have a seat at the table. Yet in recent years, government leaders have often failed to engage those in industry. A president should put the most talented people, including those from business and the opposite party, into their Cabinet.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dimon\u2019s piece comes as Vice President Kamala Harris gains ground against her Republican rival. Harris \u2014 who\u2019s running against Donald Trump after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign \u2014 has wiped out Trump\u2019s lead across seven battleground states, leaving the two candidates in a statistical dead heat, according to the latest Bloomberg News\/Morning Consult poll.<\/p>\n
Trump said in a recent interview with Bloomberg Businessweek that he\u2019s changed his view of Dimon, whom he assailed last year as a \u201chighly overrated Globalist.\u201d The former president said he could envision Dimon \u2014 thought to be contemplating a political career \u2014 as \u201csomebody that I would consider\u201d for Treasury secretary.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
Dimon didn\u2019t cite either presidential candidate by name, nor endorse either Harris or Trump, in his opinion piece.<\/p>\n
The U.S. is coping with \u201cchallenging domestic issues and perhaps the most complicated geopolitical situation since World War II,\u201d Dimon wrote in the article. He called on the next president to \u201cunite Americans with regular, honest and open communication,\u201d saying that former presidents such as Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower \u201cguided us forward\u201d and the best leaders address \u201cbroader interests of our country and don\u2019t pander to base politics or cater to extremes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
