{"id":40221,"date":"2023-11-01T18:29:23","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T18:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pantheregroup.com\/2023\/11\/01\/bank-of-canada-interest-rate-cuts-unlikely-until-summer-cibc\/"},"modified":"2023-11-01T18:29:23","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T18:29:23","slug":"bank-of-canada-interest-rate-cuts-unlikely-until-summer-cibc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pantheregroup.com\/2023\/11\/01\/bank-of-canada-interest-rate-cuts-unlikely-until-summer-cibc\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank of Canada interest rate cuts unlikely until summer: CIBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<h2 class=\"visually-hidden\">Article content<\/h2>\n<p data-async=\"\">Canadians anxious for lower interest rates, especially those looking to renegotiate their mortgages in the near future, will likely have to wait until the middle of next year for the Bank of Canada to start to cut, CIBC economist Benjamin Tal believes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they will take their time before they cut interest rates \u2014 not before June or July of next year,\u201d Tal told the Financial Post\u2019s Larysa Harapyn in a recent interview. \u201cThat\u2019s another way of tightening, just keep high interest rates for longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">The Bank of Canada has raised its benchmark lending rate 10 times since March 2022 to a 22-year high of five per cent. Statistics Canada will provide insight on wages when it releases September jobs data on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuite frankly, I believe they (the Bank of Canada) are done.
