Indian shares ended lower for the third day running Thursday, though markets<\/span> staged a recovery in the last hour of trade to cut losses. <\/p>\n

While IT, metal and consumer durable stocks led losses, PSU banks witnessed some buying interest, helping limit the downside in the broader market. <\/p>\n

The benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex hit as low as 60,485.65 before recovering some ground to end the session down 336.46 points, or 0.55 percent, at 60,923.50.<\/p>\n

The broader NSE Nifty index settled down 88.50 points, or 0.48 percent, at 18,178.10, after having hit an intraday low of 18,048.<\/p>\n

Asian Paints slumped 4.9 percent after the company reported a 29 percent decline in consolidated net profit in the second quarter ended September. <\/p>\n

TCS, Reliance Industries, Infosys and Hindalco dropped 2-4 percent.<\/p>\n

Kotak Mahindra Bank shares surged 6.9 percent after reports that the private sector lender is in the race to acquire Citi’s retail business<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Tata Motors jumped 4.5 percent after foreign research house Jefferies raised its target price on the stock. <\/p>\n

BPCL, HDFC and Grasim Industries climbed 2-3 percent. <\/p>\n

Globally, cues from Asia and Europe were muted on fears that Evergrande’s debt troubles could hit China’s broader economic recovery. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
