{"id":10896,"date":"2021-06-17T10:54:31","date_gmt":"2021-06-17T10:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pantheregroup.com\/2021\/06\/17\/sensex-ends-179-points-lower-nifty-dips-below-15700\/"},"modified":"2021-06-17T10:54:31","modified_gmt":"2021-06-17T10:54:31","slug":"sensex-ends-179-points-lower-nifty-dips-below-15700","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pantheregroup.com\/2021\/06\/17\/sensex-ends-179-points-lower-nifty-dips-below-15700\/","title":{"rendered":"Sensex Ends 179 Points Lower; Nifty Dips Below 15,700"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"ctl00_CPI_dvBody\">\n<p> Indian shares ended lower on Thursday, tracking weak global <span class=\"landLinks\">markets<\/span> after Federal Reserve officials on Wednesday projected hikes in interest rates by 2023, a year earlier than expected, citing an improved health situation amid the vaccine rollout.<\/p>\n<p>The benchmark S&amp;P BSE Sensex dropped 178.65 points, or 0.34 percent, to 52,323.33, extending losses for the second day running. <\/p>\n<p>The broader NSE Nifty index ended down 76.15 points, or 0.48 percent, at 15,691.40 as weekly option contracts expired. <\/p>\n<p>The rupee fell nearly 1 percent to trade below the 74 per U.S. dollar mark in the afternoon on fears that a tapering of asset purchases by the Fed may impact foreign institutional investor (FII) flows into emerging markets, including India.<\/p>\n<p>Adani Ports&#8217; shares slumped 9 percent to extend recent losses, while NTPC, Eicher Motors, Hindalco and IndusInd Bank lost 2-3 percent. <\/p>\n<p>IT stocks led the gainers, with Tech Mahindra, TCS and Infosys rising more than 1 percent each after media reports suggested that domestic software firms are set to slash headcounts by a massive 3 million by 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Asian Paints advanced 1.4 percent after hiking prices of all products in the decorative segment.
